I've joined a ton of places, here's my two cents on 'em.
Tumblr's been a pretty chill place to post silly doodles alongside more polished stuff, but it's deffo more quiet than the bigger social medias. It's not really a place to farm for numbers and the like, but it's cozy. Just make sure if you do go there to opt out of third party scraping for your blogs, bc otherwise they'll sell your work to midjourney. That almost made me leave tbh, but most of the people following my art are still there so I put up with it... for now. At the very least, it's super easy to avoid AI slop if you don't follow it or follow anyone who reblogs it.
Instagram used to be pretty decent for visibility, but recent changes like getting rid of being able to search for newest stuff in tags has all but killed visibility for everyone but artists that are already popular, and you basically need to make reels of whatever's trending to be seen at all... and that's if you can be seen over the sheer amounts of reposters and meme aggregators. I still check it because i have family that posts there, but I don't really feel like continuing to run on that particular treadmill as an artist, especially since they don't even let you opt out of scraping for their AI. I understand every place that can be seen is scrapable and all that, but it's just the icing on the shit cake at this point. A lot of artists I follow left to either tumblr or Cara.
I decided to try out Cara. It's been alright, pretty quiet but you gotta keep in mind there's like under a mil users total there. It's like a mix of dA/Artstation and twitter, functionally. AI genned stuff is banned. People have been actually commenting on stuff, which is surprising. Been trying to do that more, myself. Also not a place to go if you're looking to do big numbers, but I've been getting about as many people showing up as I do posting here. They have a job board if you're looking for freelance work too, idk how often it updates. Downside is they don't allow nsfw, but they say they're working towards it in the future, so who knows?
Twitter sucks. I can't go on it without getting buried in rage bait and doomposting, which I'm pretty sure is the point of it since it keeps you on there longer. It only gets points for being one of the few big places left that lets you post nsfw, but even then it shadowbans you. :B Also there's so many fucking bots there's just bots on top of bots and the bots even mention you to other bots so more bots can find you as well. Not worth it imho.
BlueSky... Is probably a little better, but probably because there's less people there and better ways to filter out shit you don't wanna see. I'm still not personally a fan of the twitter structure when it comes to posting art though, it's not very good for organization or archival, so I tend to prefer galleries more (or in tumblr's case, a tag people can use to look at only my art posts on my blog).
Newgrounds has been pretty chill. Not a place to post if you're looking for numbers or money, but people still actually comment here from time to time. You don't really see that in many other places. Anti-AI stance is great. Portal system is good for upholding quality, but it doesn't feel like I can post my more loose and goofy sketches and stuff here. I know you can post stuff like that outside the portal, but it's probably not gonna be seen then, so I don't really bother. I just put my sketches on tumblr instead.
Sheezy.Art... it may still be too early to really give much of an opinion on it, but they allow nsfw and have hella good page customization. AI is also disallowed there. Downside is it's in closed beta, uploads are limited while it's still in beta (understandable but i got a big backlog of art, alas...) and the warning tags can get a little ridiculous at times. Have a character with no fur but also no genitals? If they're not wearing clothes, still gotta tag it with "nudity", even if it's like a stickman. For a while they made you tag any shirtless character with "nipples" but I think they've since dropped that tag requirement. Which is kinda sad, because it was a fun tag to go through in search lol.
DeviantART... No. Just no. This used to be my go-to place since the 2000s, but it got enshittified into oblivion in so many ways since then. Not worth it.
I hear FurAffinity is still a good place for commissions and adopts after dA shit the bed, but I haven't made an account there since I'm not primarily a furry artist. I've been tempted since I do draw a lot of monsters, object heads and other non-humans, but I'm still not sure if that really counts enough? Idk. Maybe I'll give it a shot at some point.
